How a teaching community endured

Bakharzi connects the Kubrawi tradition with Bukhara after the upheavals of the Mongol period. The library’s institutional-history dossier moves beyond a list of spiritual successors to ask how a lodge sustained teaching, hospitality and collective life.

Fathabad’s story involves endowment, property and family continuity as well as devotion. The dossier discusses fourteenth-century waqf evidence and Ibn Battuta’s account through modern scholarship. These later witnesses help reconstruct the institution’s afterlife; they are not eyewitness accounts of every episode in Bakharzi’s own life.

The public sources differ between 1261 and 1262 for his death. We retain that uncertainty. The surviving memorial and the earlier teaching institution also have different building histories.
